Message from the Chief

Welcome to the Section of General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Our mission is to improve the health of diverse populations through medical education, innovative research, quality clinical services, and community outreach.
As part of the Tulane University Health Sciences Center, our Section is part of an institution with a proud and distinguished history of providing care for varied populations around the globe, advancing medical knowledge, and training the next generation of physicians. Tulane’s GIM faculty are a multi-talented and energetic group of 40 general internists and geriatricians who provide clinical services and medical education at our three affiliated medical centers: the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and Tulane University Hospital and Clinic.
Section of GIM faculty provide clinical care for patients at several sites including the FQHC Ruth U. Fertel Tulane Community Health Center, Tulane’s Internal Medicine Practice, Uptown Square, Veterans Affairs, Medical Center of Louisiana-New Orleans, and Metairie Clinics. Faculty are advancing medicine through research in the Tulane Center of Aging, education of medical students and residents in internal medicine, patient safety, and quality improvement, and service abroad through affiliated global health programs. We take pride in our enthusiasm, achievement, teamwork, and success. Our research interests include health disparities for vulnerable populations, genetics of aging, transitions of care and teamwork training, and chronic disease management. Several GIM faculty hold key leadership roles in the medical education and hospital programs across Tulane University’s School of Medicine and at our affiliated hospitals, including directorships for the internal medicine residency program, clinical core clerkship, quality and patient safety, and hospital medicine.
We invite you to learn more about the teaching, research, and clinical activities of our Section. I hope that you will take the opportunity to peruse the remainder of our website and get to know us better. Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments or questions.
