Research Interests

Dr. Murthy’s research interests involve work on insulin resistance and diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in animal models with special emphasis on vascular responses to injury, pulmonary hypertension, endothelial and erectile dysfunction. In addition, nutritional components, particularly amino acids and the effects of various pharmaceutical preparations, are investigated in the context of vascular responses to injury and pulmonary hypertension. A major component of his ongoing work includes studies on intermediary metabolism, oxidative stress, stem cell therapy (native and gene modified), and an understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in these processes.
