Program DescriptionTeaching Kitchen
This purpose of this program is to address health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure through the perspective of nutrition and eating habits. The culinary nutrition education will be incorporated into the medical students' curriculum. 

Education/Workforce Development
Hands-on, evidence-based education to medical students and community members on healthy, affordable cooking principals and menu is the basis of this program.

Research
Research on the effect of adding culinary nutrition to a medical student curriculum will be addressed. There will also be projects assisting in effectiveness of Edible Schoolyard on students eating habits. 

Capacity Building/Community Engagement
There will be comprehensive community cooking classes and community outreach with a hands-on approach and strategic relationship building with community organizations such as Edible Schoolyard, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and others to be determined. Medical students and Johnson & Wales University interns will be working at organizations like these throughout the community, as well as support in codifying Edible Schoolyard curriculum and planning of community events. This program also involves a strategic partnership with Johnson & Wales University, a leading culinary university.
