Accreditation

TTEI is accredited to provide ATLS continuing medical education by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The American College of Surgeons designates the 2 day Student Course as meeting the criteria for 17 credit hours in Category I. The two day Student course is also approved by the American College of Emergency Physicians for 17 hours of ACEP Category I credit. The Student Refresher course is approved by the American College of Surgeons for 5 credit hours in Category I.


Tulane Trauma Educational Institute Medical Director

The TTEI Medical Director is Dr. Norman McSwain, Professor of Surgery, Tulane EMS Trauma Director, Trauma Director Charity Hospital, and Vice-Chair and Residency Program Director for the Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Surgery. Dr. McSwain was an early advocate of formalized trauma training and serves on the ACS-COT, and is the designated trauma surgeon for the New Orleans Police Department.
