How will the curriculum differ from a traditional medical school curriculum?
It will be 3 1/2 years rather than 4 with the pre-clinical curriculum consisting of interdisciplinary, systems-based modules. Almost all teaching in these modules will utilize active learning methods, with very limited "lectures". The clinical requirements will be the same as for the students in the standard curriculum with required and clinical electives that you choose. You will graduate with the August incoming group of 2013 if you start in January 2014.
Will I take classes with other students in the HEAL-X Program only, or with all students in the Tulane medical school program?
See above. Your cohort of up to 15 students will be together until you join the other med students for your clinical rotations during the third and fourth years.
Where do your students typically match for residency?
Graduates of the Tulane School of Medicine match all over the country. Check here for recent Match results. They are excellent!
Is there any financial aid available for students in the program? When is that evaluated and is it decided before starting the program in January?
Yes. Tuition and fees are exactly the same as they are for all medical students, except that you will only pay for 3 ½ years of medical school rather than 4. You will know prior to matriculation what your financial aid package will look like.
How and when does my advisor need to inform you that I will have my PhD by January 2014 (if I don't already have a PhD)?
In the letter of evaluation as part of your application he/she must verify that you have defended your dissertation successfully prior to the start date for the program.
How do I designate my interest in this program specifically when adding Tulane to the AMCAS application list of schools?
On the AMCAS application designate the MD only program NOT a combined degree program. You can designate your interest in HEAL-X on our Secondary application by means of a pull down menu. Indicate "PhD to MD program". If you don't see the pull down menu choice when you receive the Tulane Secondary application call our office to let us know of your interest. 504-988-5187
Must I take the MCAT before applying to this program?
Yes. You must submit MCAT scores with your application to be considered. Scores cannot be older than January, 2011.
When will Interviews be conducted?
