Visiting U.S. Students
From LCME Accreditied Schools
Thank you for your interest in senior clinical training at Tulane University School of Medicine during your elective time. Tulane is pleased to offer clinical clerkships of the senior year to students of other medical schools, including member schools of the Association of American Medical Colleges and Canadian affiliate members, and upon special approval, foreign medical schools. All information through VSAS is complete and acceptable. The visiting student must be a senior in a four-year curriculum when the clerkship is taken and must have completed the equivalent of Tulane's basic clerkships in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry and neurology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Our Visiting Student Program is now accepting applications through the AAMC VSAS program. You must receive authorizations from your home school in order to use this program. Find basic information about Tulane here.
Students in U.S.-based M.D. programs applying for enrollment in clinical electives at Tulane University School of Medicine must apply through VSAS. Please log into VSAS at http://www.aamc.org/vsas to complete and submit a VSAS application for your preferred electives and dates.
Any application materials received outside of VSAS and/or outside of the published catalog year will not be accepted.
Students in international medical school programs and DO programs must apply for electives using the traditional application process outlined on our International and DO visiting students page. If you have any questions, please contact Rondel Frank in the office of Student Affairs at Rondel Frank.
Please read the following information regarding application requirements:
Abbreviated Statement of Policies
Other policies concerning intramural aspects of clerkships for visiting students are not set forth in this abbreviated statement of policy.
Applications from visiting students are processed after Tulane junior medical students have signed up for their Senior clerkships, which usually begin between the end of April and mid-May. There is a $100 non-refundable fee for processing the application and a $100 fee per month tuition. Please make arrangements to pay (cash or check) prior to starting your rotation with us. This payment maybe brought with you when you report for your rotation. Payment needs to be brought to the Student Affairs' Office at 131 S. Robertson St. Suite 1552, Rondel Frank. Non-payment will result in the student being terminated from the rotation, informing their home school, and no evaluation being released.
Visiting students are responsible for their housing and parking expenses and for making their own arrangements. For information regarding housing, please call Housing and Residence Life at 504-988-6275 or email Bill Coureti at firstname.lastname@example.org. Parking arrangements at the School must be made in advance. Contact the Tulane Medical Center Parking Services Office (phone: 504-988-5577; fax: 504-988-3795).
We will do our best to accommodate your request and reserve the right to terminate or alter any rotation that is currently in progress. Your application fee does not entitle you to a rotation and is nonrefundable. This allows us to process your request. You may bring the payment with you. If you have any questions, please contact Rondel Frank.
