Master of Social Work with Certificate in Global Social Work

Conflict, natural disaster, forced migration, illegal immigration, oppression, discrimination, and poverty are only some of the challenges faced by populations of the developed, developing and least developed nations of the world. As a social worker working within the United States or abroad, you have the opportunity to learn about global interdependence and how it impacts communities, as well as ways in which to affect change on all levels.

The Global Social Work Certificate program will prepare you to work in settings to include humanitarian aid, international development, post-conflict situations, and transitioning countries. You will have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively practice in multicultural settings within and outside the United States, including policy development and advocacy; project development and management; community needs assessment; monitoring and evaluation; and community mobilization.

The Global Social Work Certificate program will include coursework with an international focus, and you will implement your skills in a unique field placement opportunity either locally or internationally.  Program graduates will also be familiar with the international policies and frameworks which guide relief and development work with key stakeholders in governmental, multinational and non-governmental organizations. Earning the Global Social Work Certificate will allow you to develop a skill-set that will be attractive to agencies including the Red Cross, United Nations, Peace Corps, Save the Children, CARE, and Mercy Corps.
