CASA For the Holidays

Tulane University Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is proud to host its annual Holiday Toy Drive for local CASA programs. Since 2008, the toy drive has provided holiday gifts for abused and neglected children in foster care. Last year's toy drive provided more than 600 toys and $7000 in cash and gift cards to CASA programs in Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany parishes. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children is a network of 933 community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities. To learn more about CASA, visit http://www.casaforchildren.org/.

This year, the toy drive will collect gifts and donations from November 8th to December 4th. The SAC has multiple drop-off locations for toys and cash donations, as well as access to a web link for donations made via credit card. Drop-off locations, the donation link, and wish list items are listed below.

Tulane SAC works with three individual locations in the New Orleans area: Orleans, Jefferson & St. Tammany Parish. Currently, CASA New Orleans serves 130 children, Jefferson serves 200 children, and St. Tammany serves 150 children in foster care, ranging in age from newborn to 18 years old.

Every day in the United States, 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect. For many of these children, the holiday season often holds nothing but disappointment. With your help, we can bring smiles to their faces, and make their holidays a little happier.

For additional information or questions, please contact Trina Beck at tbeck@tulane.edu or 504-314-2806.

The Staff Advisory Council encourages all staff to participate in helping community causes.

Each fall, the council organizes CASA for the Holidays, an Annual Christmas Toy Drive, to help more than 400 children in foster homes, group homes and hospitals in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes.

Also, the council helps co-sponsor the Back to School Extravaganza each August to raise money and collect school supplies for New Orleans area students.
