We're here to protect you


            The Tulane University Police Department includes 44 full-time commissioned officers who are trained at state-certified police academies and meet all the requirements of the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.  The Department has an administrative staff of 18, including Drivers, Dispatchers, Watchpersons, a Traffic Assistant, Office Manager, and Information Systems Administrator.  Student Workers who receive special training in campus law enforcement are employed during the fall and spring semesters.
 
            Tulane Police Officers patrol campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  They also patrol the campus perimeter during busy nighttime hours and when special circumstances warrant it.  They are commissioned to bear arms, make arrests, and exercise investigative powers by the State of Louisiana and the New Orleans Police Department.  Many of our officers are recruited from state and local law enforcement agencies.  Others have extensive experience in campus law enforcement.
 
            The Tulane University Police Department is also responsible for enforcing traffic regulations on campus.  The Director reports to the Senior Vice President for Operations and Chief Financial Officer.
