Public health degrees offered by the department include the Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH&TM), the Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Parasitology, and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Parasitology and Tropical Medicine. The department also offers research training at the posy-doctoral level.
Graduate Parasitology
Faculty of the Department of Tropical Medicine also comprise the Division of Bacteriology and Parasitology at the Tulane National Primate Research Center.
The graduate degree courses in Parasitology are designed for students interested in the basic sciences that underline the scientific basis of human parasitology and tropical diseases. Students planning to register for a career beyond the Master's degree are encouraged to also take additional courses in histology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, and pathology.
Doctor of Philosophy in Parasitology (PhD)
This is a research degree based on the use of modern cell and molecular biology and immunology to study human parasites and disease vectors, and on the use of parasites as models of eucaryotic biology.
