 Mosquito Eggs

Mosquito eggs developing after a meal containing no animal products

Welcome to the web site for the laboratory of Dr. Dawn Wesson. The laboratory broadly focuses on arthropod-borne, tropical pathogens. Recently, this has taken the form of surveillance of local populations of Triatoma sanguisuga, deployment of a novel lethal ovitrap for container breeding Aedes mosquito species, and mathematical modeling of mosquito species' distributions and the associated risks of disease transmission to humans.

We are happy to announce that we have recently been awarded a Round 15 Grand Challenges Exploration grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We will be developing a meal free of animal products as a replacement for the blood typically used to maintain mosquito colonies.
