Tulane has a number of special programs that are more narrowly focused or provided added value to the public health degree.  Many of these programs require students to apply through an alternate route.

  • Tulane's MD/MPH Program is the oldest combined medical/public health degree program and has graduated more than 750 students since it began in 1971. Students must first be accepted into Tulane's School of Medicine and indicate that they have a commitment to public health.  MD/MPH students can also combine their medical degree with an MPH focus on tropical medicine.

  • The Preventive Medicine Residency for Physicians is co-sponsored by the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the School of Medicine.  This two-year program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and fulfills requirements leading to certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.  Applicants must apply through ACGME and to the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine through SOPHAS.

  • The Global Health Certificate Program is a multi-disciplinary program open to graduate students from any school at Tulane.  It is designed to demonstrate the interrelation between the student's course of study and the study of health issues that transcend boundaries.

Several departments also offer combined degrees with the A.B. Freeman School of Business, the School of Social Work, and the School of Law.
