The SPHTM Student Government Association is hosting its first ever Global Health Summit in honor of the school's founding 100 years ago. The theme for the three day event is One World, One Community and the schedule features guest speakers and lectures, networking events, student initiative and photo competitions, and social gatherings.
Ryan Alipio, SGA president says, "At first, members of the SGA came up with the idea of holding a Student Global Health Summit to kick-start Centennial celebrations and allow the majority of the Centennial class the opportunity to partake in Centennial-themed festivities, since most will have graduated and likely not be in New Orleans for the upcoming November events."
But the project grew, and the SGA realized that they had long term goals as reflected by the summit's mission to, "...enlighten, engage and bridge a community of future global health leaders." Alipio continues, "The summit became more than just another SGA party. It became something that can potentially add value and prestige to Tulane.
"We definitely hope to see this idea grow through future SGA leaders and students."
