The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine held a kick-off to its centennial year on Wednesday. The event included commemorative beads, give-aways for all attendees, and a special 4-piece king cake in the shape of 1-9-1-2, the year of the school’s founding. The kick-off also launched the SPHTM Student Government Association’s first Global Health Summit featuring speakers, competitions, and a semi-formal event at Rosy’s Jazz Hall.
Centennial events will continue throughout the year, culminating with a 3-day event in November featuring notable speakers such as Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and other public health luminaries, as well as school faculty and alumni.
