To ensure integrity in online education, the distance learning industry is expanding strategies to verify the identity of distance learning students.  The higher education industry regulates itself via accreditation.  "Accreditation is a process of external quality review used by higher education to scrutinize colleges, universities, and educational programs for quality assurance and quality improvement," according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.  To ensure Tulane University Distance Learning Programs adhere to higher education rules and regulations, starting in Fall 2011 every student in the distance learning program will be required to submit a copy of a state or government issued photo ID to dltech@tulane.edu
