Introduced in the 2013-2014 academic year, this program provides faculty with structured writing time in a collegial setting. These one-day retreats include a full day of self-directed writing with the opportunity to meet other participating faculty from across the university and share ideas. The participating faculty work for 45 minutes of each hour and take a 15 minute break. There is a full hour lunch break (provided) and a light reception at the end of the work day to celebrate.
As a result of extensive discussions with faculty, the Office of Academic Affairs and Provost established a fund to enable tenure-track faculty (especially junior faculty) to establish more robust national and international mentoring networks. This fund supports campus visits by senior faculty from other institutions to present their academic work to the community as well as participate in state-of-the discipline discussions with Tulane faculty. Most importantly, the expectation will be that while at Tulane, these visiting colleagues will also spend time with the sponsoring faculty member(s) reviewing their work and academic trajectory.

Since 2010, the Office of Academic Affairs and Provost has provided additional support to enhance faculty development and mentoring initiatives for junior and senior faculty by hosting special seminars, workshops and forums in the spring of each academic year. This year, the focus of the initiative is Leadership. The purpose of the upcoming Leadership Forum is to foster development of leadership and managerial skills of faculty actively engaged in the academic missions. The sessions will address key challenges encountered in the academic enterprise and assist faculty in preparing to meet the challenges. The 2014 Faculty Leadership Forum is a series of interactive sessions addressing topics such as using innovative strategies to engage faculty in the academic missions, having difficult conversations, enhancing diversity across all missions, importance of and strategies for leading in challenging times, and leveraging fundraising and development activities to support the academic enterprise.
