There are more than 550 faculty in the Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Architecture, Law, Social Work and The School of Continuing Studies. Collectively, they comprise one of the most renowned group of scholars in the world. Whether it is in the laboratory, the field, studio, or the classroom, the mission is the same: create and share knowledge that can give a better understanding of the world, if not change it for the better. Individual faculty have been honored with prestigious awards such as fellowships from the Fulbright Foundations, Woodrow Wilson Foundation, Mellon Foundation, Danforth Foundation, and the Guggenheim Foundation. They have received NSF career development awards and have won awards for outstanding books and creative endeavors. They regularly receive grants and contracts from all of the major federal funding agencies. Click here to view a list of Faculty Awards and Honors.
The University places great emphasis on hiring and retaining superb faculty who are dynamic figures in the classroom and at the cutting edge of their individual fields. These same faculty lead small classes and informal seminars to support the overall living/learning experience of Tulane students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Tulane University has a long, rich tradition of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, as well as national prominence in scholarship. The faculty are also, however, quietly engaged in community, state and national service. They have been well integrated into the fabric of their professional organizations; they engage with the local and state community by bringing their expertise and sensibilities to more local issues. Their diverse educational and scholarly experiences enrich the lives of the Tulane University community, as they have become mentors for decades of Tulane students.
