James M. Lapeyre, Jr. (Jay) is President of Laitram, LLC. Laitram is a diversified global manufacturer of plastic conveyor belting, shrimp processing equipment, and space-saving stairs. He is Lead Director of ION Geophysical, a NYSE company that provides seismic technology services and solutions to the global energy industry.

Mr. Lapeyre is Immediate Past Chair of the Tulane Board of Administrators, a member of the A.B. Freeman Business School Council, and Board Chair of The Atlas Society in Washington, D.C. He is a past Chair of The Business Council of New Orleans, The New Orleans Crime Coalition, and of Isidore Newman Board of Governors, and has served on a number of civic boards.

Post-Katrina, through the Business Council, and in association with Citizens for 1 New Orleans, Mr. Lapeyre has been actively engaged in reform efforts such as consolidating the Regional Levee Boards and the Orleans Parish Assessors, and in supporting efforts to reform and improve flood safety, charter schools, criminal justice, and the office of the Orleans Inspector General and Independent Police Monitor.

Mr. Lapeyre earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Tulane University in 1978. His wife Sally is engaged in community and volunteer efforts. He and Sally have three adult children – James, Killian and Sarah.
