Dear friends,

With Isaac behind us, I wanted to thank you for your feedback to our inaugural Wave Patrol newsletter. Your support and encouragement are much appreciated. Several of you wrote back with questions and I thought it would be helpful to share the answers with the entire Tulane community.

Can students register with TUPD so you can keep a look out for them?
It would be impossible to maintain a log or register of students' whereabouts. However, TUPD does provide security escorts to ensure the safety of those who are traveling on campus, and within a one-mile radius surrounding campus, especially after dark.

To request the escort service for the uptown campus, call 504-865-5381. For the downtown campus, call 504-988-5531. TUPD dispatch will arrange for an escort to meet you and accompany you to your destination.

Have you increased your efforts on the downtown campus as well?
We have created a heavily patrolled pedestrian corridor on Cleveland and LaSalle streets and our officers are now wearing high visibility reflective vests after hours to increase TUPD's presence in the area.

I can't emphasize it enough - preventing criminal activity begins with each individual. These basic safety principles never get old and are worth reiterating as we embark on a new semester:

Be aware of your surroundings. Know where you are going and don't wander into unfamiliar areas.

Report suspicious behavior. A phone call only takes a minute: (504) 865-5911.

Don't leave your property unattended. It just creates temptation.

Never walk alone in the dark. Use the patrolled pedestrian corridors off-campus. Take a SafeRide shuttle. Request a safety escort.

**NEW ** After Hours Uptown Business District Shuttle
Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays
8 p.m. - 4 a.m.

We have instituted a new shuttle service which will operate on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. on a continuous loop through the uptown business district bounded by our perimeter patrol area. Tulane students, and faculty and staff need only to show their university identification to board the shuttle.

This new service is in addition to our existing SafeRide shuttles which operate seven days a week from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. transporting Tulanians to/from campus to residences and businesses.
