Vehicle Burglary

Between July 5, 2010 and August 15, 2010 there have been (4) vehicle burglaries in the Heal Parking Garage. The vehicles were parked on various levels of the parking structure. An unknown subject or subjects broke the side window of the vehicles to gain entry. It should be noted that in all cases the vehicles had been left in the Heal Garage for an extended period of time ranging from overnight to several months. Only one of the victims was able to report that items were missing from inside.

Please remember leaving items of value in plain sight in the passenger compartment of vehicles continues to be the major cause of area vehicular burglaries. Keeping those items out of sight, or at home, will significantly reduce the chances of being the victim of a vehicle burglary.

Also remember that leaving your vehicle parked in the same place in a public parking garage for extended periods of time makes your vehicle an easy target for criminals in the area.

Please report all incidents or suspicious activity as soon as safety permits. Remember to travel in numbers whenever possible, utilize crosswalks, park in well lit and populated areas, and to use the TUHSC Police 24-hours Safety Escort Services. Stop at the lobby post or call 504-988-5531 for information and safety brochures. In case of EMERGENCY call 988-5555 or 55555 if on campus. Please report all incidents or suspicious activity as soon as safety permits.
