TUPD STATEMENT ON NOPD CONSENT DECREE - July 25, 2012

The consent decree entered into between the New Orleans Police Department and U.S. Justice Department will not affect the longstanding collaboration between TUPD and NOPD, said Jon Barnwell, TUPD Superintendent of Police.  “TUPD has worked closely with the New Orleans Police Department for decades and will continue its close working relationship.  The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our top priority and we will continue to coordinate our efforts and resources to keep the Tulane community safe. The consent decree will have no effect on the number of NOPD personnel working with us.”
 
Barnwell also stated that the goal of the decree is to improve conditions at NOPD which will ultimately benefit all of New Orleans, including the safety of students, faculty and staff at Tulane.
