Construction of the McAlister Place project began May 18, 2009. McAlister Drive from Freret Street to Drill Road will become a beautifully landscaped pedestrian way. Features include beds of lush native plantings, two plazas and new lighting.

The American Institute of Architects 2009 Honor Award, awarded to the Lavin-Bernick Center, was presented at the AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco April 30 for Excellence in Architectural Design.
The Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life was chosen by the AIA as one of the top 10 green buildings in the country. The announcement was made by the AIA on Earth Day 2008.

"[An] outstanding example of sustainable design."
The PJ's Coffee Shop at Stern Hall received a national design award from the AIA in the 2008: Small Projects Award Program. The Award was presented during the 2008 AIA National Convention in Boston. The project was one of only 18 selected from a field of 150 submissions from around the country.
