Weatherhead Hall was distinguished with a Society for College and University Planning Excellence in Architecture for a New Building Honor Award this past summer. Tulane University and the design team of Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company and John C. Williams Architects were recognized at SCUP’s annual 2013 conference. The jury praised the way the spaces, surfaces and details all synthesized to encourage student interaction within the residence hall. Sustainability was another emphasis in the design of the building, which is certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.

AIA New Orleans granted the Hertz Center a 2013 Design Merit Award at its annual Design Awards ceremony in March. The new practice facility for Men’s and Woman’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball was designed by Gould Evans Associates and Lee Ledbetter and Associates. The jury appreciated the project's handling of scale with respect to the double court gymnasium and the transparency of the interior spaces. In keeping with the university’s commitment to green building design, The Hertz Center is certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Construction continues on Zimple House with the concrete structure rising through Fall 2013. Zimple House will be the third residence hall following the residential college model with Wall Residential College and Weatherhead Hall preceding it.  Zimple House is anticipated to open in time for Move-In of the Fall 2014 semester.

Newcomb Pottery Garden

The Newcomb Pottery Garden honors the artistic legacy of Newcomb Pottery, a quasi commercial enterprise established in the late 19th century in association with the curriculum of Newcomb College. During its forty-five years in existence, the Newcomb Pottery, a model industry, employed approximately ninety women and produced distinctive wares that were useful, beautiful, and based of the natural elements and environs of the Deep South. The Newcomb Pottery Garden, dedicated in May 2009 in memory of Judith Henkin by the Glazer family is filled with many examples of the regional flora that inspired these unique creations.
