Celebrating the Courageous Katrina Class
Dear Tulanians and Friends,
We’ve just waved goodbye to the Class of 2009 and what a celebration it was! This class was displaced to more than 600 colleges and universities for the fall 2005 semester while Tulane recovered from Katrina. The class came back in January 2006 more dedicated than ever to Tulane and determined to help rebuild New Orleans. What they have accomplished is one for the record books, donating thousands of hours of their time to public service. They set the standard for civic engagement and Tulanians have never looked back, expanding that commitment into one of the country’s strongest public service programs.
For the last five months, I’ve been reporting to you on the various ways we keep Tulane on Track. Your support plays a pivotal role in creating unique opportunities for our students, from scholarships to innovative, hands-on learning projects. It reaps tremendous rewards for Tulane and, most of all, for our students.
Last Saturday’s Commencement was the official end of the Katrina odyssey for these students. As we bid the Katrina Class farewell, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and actor-musician Harry Connick Jr. added excitement and entertainment. Though I must admit that in my opinion, our students will always be the stars of the show. The full Commencement can be viewed on our website. Here are just a few highlights.
