The Tulane Regional Urban Design Center is working with the city of Mandeville, La. to preserve one of the nation’s oldest, unaltered rural jazz halls. Jazz takes center stage at the Unified Commencement featuring Ellen DeGeneres, Harry Connick Jr. and other luminaries. Watch live on May 16.

April is a busy time at Tulane and in New Orleans. Classes end and students start studying for finals. Meanwhile, the university prepares for Commencement, which is May 16 this year. Ellen DeGeneres is the keynote speaker and will receive the President’s medal. Harry Connick Jr. and three other luminaries will receive honorary degrees.
The end of April also marks the start of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. If you’re a student who plays in the Tulane Jazz Orchestra, you are busy preparing for your performance at the Fest on April 30 (11:15 a.m. at the WWOZ Jazz Tent). It’s one example of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities our students are offered.
