Hazardous and toxic substances are defined as chemicals present in the workplace which are capable of causing harm to the user and/or the environment. In addition to chemicals used in laboratories, hazardous and toxic substances also include common materials such as paints, fuels, and solvents.
Hazardous and toxic substances should be properly discarded of in order to protect yourself and the environment. OEHS coordinates hazardous and toxic substances waste disposal for all of Tulane University's campuses. Specific training on chemical waste labeling, packaging, and disposal is required prior to submitting a waste pickup request.
Both the Hazardous Waste Handling for Laboratories training course and the Hazardous Waste Pickup Request Form can be accessed via the Training Wave. The Training Wave is located on the Gibson Online Portal under "Tulane Resources." These resources can be found under the Training Wave's "Course Catalog."
