Friends,
The stage was set in 1950 by Dr. William N. Wasson, who organized a meeting of 22 African-American men and women intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges at the first Intramural Conference at Dillard University in New Orleans. Participants at the conference formed the National Intramural Association.  Since then, NIRSA (NIA's successor) has experienced phenomenal growth. NIRSA's nearly 4,000 members are represented on more than 700 campus and universities, doing the work these visionaries laid out 60 years ago.

In 2009 and 2011 New Orleans will again play host to NIRSA events, including the 2009 Region IV Conference and 2011 NIRSA National Conference.  The Department of Campus Recreation at Tulane University is excited to take the lead at these events with your help.

This October, Tulane will welcome colleagues from our region, which includes Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas for three days of educational sessions, exposition hall opportunities, networking and local recreation facility tours.  
Social events will happen throughout the city that Headline News and Travel surveyors named as the best city for dining and live music in their annual survey of "America's Favorite Cities."  The New Orleans Marriott will be our host hotel, and its location on Canal Street, at the edge of the French Quarter, affords opportunities to experience everything New Orleans has to offer.  

Our host committee would like to extend an offer to become a sponsor of one of our exciting evening social events and dinners, or as an exhibitor in our exhibit hall, ensuring that together we make this year's NIRSA Region IV Conference a uniquely successful and memorable event.
