We offer a photo library as a resource of university photos for tulane.edu websites. We also have photo tips to help you take your own shots.
RGB Mode
Photos will not show in some browsers
if they are not in RGB mode. Always
check your site on IE and Firefox.
It is suggested that you resize photos before moving them into the CMS. The Web Image Generator lets you upload a photo and choose from a variety of size options.
Optimize images for fastest download time possible. It is suggested that standard images be saved in jpeg format, RGB mode, and not exceed 610 pixels wide at 72 resolution. If it takes too long to download your site, your audience might move to another site.
Some browsers (particularly older browsers) may not display images that are not of type 'GIF' or 'JPEG.' Some contributors have successfully used PNG files for transparent backgrounds.
For section subheaders and image subheaders, height of images does not matter; the widths are definitely important so the layout doesn't break. There are categories in the gallery with images of these sizes grouped together.
'Insert Snippets' option is found within the tool bar of a text element. Heights for snippets do not matter.
You can also use the variable snippet for other sized photos.
The photo gallery is a 'Custom Element' that works best when the photos are cropped to a square size of 350 x 350 pixels. Otherwise, the photos will appear stretched or condensed to fit into the square preview of the image.
For an image to fit in a standard sidebar, it should not exceed 190 pixels wide, which will allow margins on both sides consistent with any text blocks.
