WHAT: “Prevention and Preparedness: Comprehensive School Safety Planning,” a day-long workshop to better prepare New Orleans public school personnel for traumatic events that may occur on their campuses or in the community such as student death, school shooting, natural disaster, neighborhood tragedy, health epidemic or terrorism. The workshop will assist staff from more than 50 schools in devising plans to reduce negative trauma reactions, build student resiliency, facilitate a return to learning and strengthen families and school communities.

WHO: Workshop presenters Stacy Overstreet and Bonnie Nastasi, professors in Tulane’s Department of Psychology, and doctoral students in Tulane’s trauma-focused school psychology specialization, the only one of its kind in the nation.
