WHAT: Tulane University's 2009 "Katrina Class" Commencement
WHO: Approximately 2,200 graduates (most of whom were Tulane freshmen for only a few hours when they had to evacuate ahead of Katrina); more than 100 faculty in full academic regalia; thousands of friends and families; keynote speaker Ellen DeGeneres; honorary degree recipients Harry Connick Jr., HIV co-discoverer and Nobel Prize winner Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, health care advocate Jessie Gruman and architect William McDonough; plus entertainment by Dr. Michael White's Original Liberty Jazz Band and jazz singer Wanda Rouzan; herald trumpets; confetti cannons and a traditional New Orleans second-line procession.

Media may park for free in Superdome Garage 6, which is located on the Poydras Street side of the Superdome, to the right of Ground Level, Gate A. After parking, the media can enter the Superdome through Ground Level Gate A. A riser with a mult-box will be provided on the floor of the Superdome. Media are asked to contact Mike Strecker at email@example.com or 504-865-5210 if they plan to cover Tulane’s Commencement and also request any specific needs, including access to DSL lines, since, unlike the press box, the Superdome floor is not wireless.
