Sir Nigel Sheinwald KCMG, British ambassador to the United States, will visit Tulane University on March 21, meeting with Tulane President Scott Cowen and other university officials before addressing students at 2:30 p.m. in Stibbs Room 203 on the second floor of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life. Sheinwald’s talk at Tulane is free and open to the public and media.

Sheinwald is visiting Louisiana to explore ways to increase business, trade and investment with the state and to discuss the importance of transatlantic relations, especially as the both the United Kingdom and the United States recover from the global recession.

Ambassador Sheinwald joined the diplomatic service in 1976 and has served in Brussels, Washington and Moscow and in a wide range of policy jobs in London. Before his appointment as British ambassador to the United States in October 2007, he served as foreign policy and defense adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair for four years. From 2000-2003 he served as the UK’s ambassador and permanent representative to the European Union.
