Lisa Ling, former co-host of ABC's "The View" and currently a correspondent for National Geographic and the "Oprah Winfrey Show," will be the keynote speaker at "Educating Women for a World of Crisis," the inaugural summit of the Newcomb College Institute at Tulane University. The summit will be held Thursday, Feb. 8-Sunday, Feb. 11 at Tulane's Lavin-Bernick Center.

As New Orleans rebuilds after Katrina, the Newcomb College Institute joins in the effort, seeking innovative ways to prepare women for a world where expectations are great and needs greater. The summit highlights women around the world who examine and resolve crises locally, nationally and globally, and features internationally-renowned speakers who will discuss how higher education can prepare women for a world in which crisis is a daily reality.

Sessions include: Gender and Disaster; Causes of Climate Change; Women in Post-Conflict Zones; Art and Social Change; War, Peace and Activism; Urban Crises; Preserving Women's History in a Time of Crisis.

The summit will also address the topic from a local perspective, with students, grassroots organizers, teachers and healers sharing their research, initiatives and narratives. Participants will have an opportunity to tour Katrina-affected areas with local women involved in the recovery.
