The defending C-USA champion Tulane Green Wave baseball team announced that all grandstand seats at Turchin Stadium are sold out for the upcoming season. In addition to receiving preseason C-USA honors, the team is also ranked seventh by Collegiate Baseball in the most recent poll as it enters the alumni game exhibition.

The overwhelming increase in ticket sales, aided greatly by the incredible 2001 season, led to a sell-out of the stadium grandstand for the first time in the parks 12-year history. Two weeks in advance of the Feb. 15 home opener against the Villanova Wildcats, the team had already sold upwards of 1,500 season tickets, two-thirds of which are grandstand seats. The team has already sold twice as many season tickets as it did all of last season.

The team, hoping to see ticket sales continue at their rapid pace, believes it can crack the 2,000-ticket plateau by the time of the home opener. C-USA announced Tuesday that Tulane is its unanimous pick to finish No. 1 in conference at the end of the season. Additionally, the conference picked four players on the preseason all-conference team.

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Michael Aubrey, topped the list as he was also chosen C-USA Preseason Player of the Year. This marks the fifth consecutive year a Tulane player was chosen for the conference. Sophomore Anthony Giarratano was also chosen for the team.

Giarratano, after playing an incredible season last year, will move from second base to shortstop. Joining him is senior James Jurries, who is the only senior on this years team. Playing third base, Jurries is the conferences first four-year member of the preseason team. Rounding out the top four is another incredible player, junior Jon Kaplan.

Playing center field as an art, Kaplan started the final 58 games of last season hitting .358 with 14 doubles. The team opens its season Feb. 8 in Malibu, Calif. against the Pepperdine Waves before returning home to take on Villanova.
