Take a Hike

February 1, 1998

Inside Tulane Staff

The Department of Campus Recreation's Family and Youth Program is sponsoring an outdoor adventure week for children ages 5 to 12 years. The week's two outings will expose kids to the outdoors in an educational context.

The first trip is a hike in Jean Lafitte Historical Park and Preserve on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will hike eight miles of boardwalk and hard-surfaced trails through the preserve and create a craft project. The trip includes a trail-mix snack.

The second outing is a biking trip on the Tammany Trace, the nine-mile path from Mandeville to Abita Springs on Saturday, Feb. 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will bike the Trace through ancient wetlands and woodlands, over wooden bridges and under canopies of forest oak. Bikers will sip rootbeer floats at the end of the ride.

The fees to participate in both trips are $45 for Reily Student Recreation Center members and $55 for non-members. Individual trips are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Call Lynne Perez at 865-5242.
