The medical center conference center, formerly located on the seventh floor of the hospital and clinic, has moved to the second floor of the DCI Building, which is adjacent to the Tidewater Building.
"The new conference center has a much better configuration than the old one," says Deborah Schumacher, Faculty Club and catering manager for the hospital and clinic. "The meeting rooms are more private and the rooms are all soundproofed. People can have a change of environment and meet in an area away from the traffic of the hospital and clinic."
The conference center, which serves all areas of the medical center, features five meeting rooms and 4,200 square feet of meeting space, about 200 more feet than its previous location, Schumacher says. The rooms vary in size to accommodate from eight to 150 guests.
The new center, which moved in late January, offers the same catering services and audiovisual equipment rental as the former center. Also making the move to the new center are the casts of building facades from the Mayan archaeological site, Uxmal, which formerly graced the aptly named "Mayan Room."
Moving into the vacated space on the seventh floor are the physical and occupational therapy departments, which moved from the first floor of the hospital and clinic to accommodate an expansion of the hospital's emergency room area.
