U.S. News and World Report has ranked Tulane as one of the top 34 national universities in terms of quality and as the sixth best in terms of value. In the educational quality ranking, Tulane climbed two spots from last year, moving up from No. 36 to tie with Lehigh University and New York University at No. 34.
This is the second consecutive year Tulane has jumped two places in that overall category, which is determined by averaging several factors, including academic reputation, student retention and graduation, faculty resources, "value added"--the school's role in the academic success of its students, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
The university dropped two places in the "best value" ranking, however, from No. 4 last year to tie at No. 6 with Northwestern University (Ill.) and the Illinois Institute of Technology. The survey, released in the magazine's Aug. 25 edition, is in its 11th year.
