Lewy Wins Spirit of Love Award

December 1, 1996

Judith Zwolak

The Ronald McDonald House, a non-profit organization that provides housing for families of critically ill children receiving medical care in the New Orleans area, has awarded its fourth annual Spirit of Love award to John Lewy, chair and W.B. Reily Professor of Pediatrics, as well as physician-in-chief of Tulane Children's Hospital.

The award is presented to a member of the medical community who has exhibited "outstanding devotion to the care and treatment of children." "I am very flattered and honored to win the Spirit of Love award," Lewy says. "The Ronald McDonald House is doing a magnificent job for the community and the Tulane Hospital for Children by providing housing at low cost for families with very sick children.

It is an important community resource and an excellent organization." The Ronald McDonald House will honor Lewy at a Dec. 7 gala at the Hyatt Regency. The New Orleans Ronald McDonald House, located at 4403 Canal Street, opened in 1983 and has housed over 14,000 families since its inception. For more information about the gala or the house, call 486-6668.
