Stumped for what to give someone who has everything? Do you want to present a meaningful gift that will make a difference, without spending a fortune? The Tulane Cancer Center staff urges you to consider a donation to the cancer center's Patient Relief Fund as an alternative to gift-giving.
Tulane Cancer Center's Patient Relief Fund was established in 1998 to help needy patients meet unexpected expenses associated with their care at Tulane. The Patient Relief Fund is often the only source available to Tulane Cancer Center's patient navigator and social worker to solve urgent problems for cancer patients.
Over the years, this fund has granted $22,257 in assistance, providing help with everything from transportation, meals and short-term housing to rental assistance for patients facing eviction.
"There are few alternate resources to assist our needy patients," says Roy Weiner, director of the Tulane Cancer Center. "At a time when many of our patients have not yet returned to their homes following Hurricane Katrina, this type of assistance is more important than ever."
The fund provides an alternative to small gift-giving among Tulane faculty and staff during the holiday season. Instead of a tangible gift, your recipient receives an acknowledgment card stating that you have made a donation to the fund in his/her honor to spread solace to those in need throughout the year.
"A donation to the Tulane Cancer Center Patient Relief Fund is a wonderfully easy way to have your gift make a truly meaningful difference this holiday season and all year long," says Keadren Green, senior administrator at the Tulane Cancer Center. "The cancer center staff does all the work. We will send out acknowledgment cards in your name to your list of recipients for gifts of $5 or more per recipient."
A donation form is available online, or simply list your recipients and their address information on a sheet of paper and send it along with your check, made payable to the Tulane Cancer Center, to the attention of Keadren Green at 1430 Tulane Ave., Box SL-68, New Orleans, LA 70112-2699.
For more information, e-mail Green or call 504-988-6064.
