Diversity convocation to encourage political debate

The 14th annual diversity convocation at Tulane University will merge discussion of “Hip Hop, the Youth Vote and the 2012 Presidential Election” beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 17) in the Kendall Cram Room at the Lavin-Bernick Center.
Panelists were organized by Rap Sessions, a national tour that brings town hall-style meetings to universities around the country to help “jumpstart crucial local debate.”
The evening’s panelists are Maya Rockeymoore, CEO of Global Policy Solutions; Michael Skolnik, editor-in-chief, GlobalGrind.com; Erica Williams, CEO of Foolish Life Ventures; Van Jones, founder of Green for All; and Rob Biko Baker, executive director for the League of Young Voters. Bakari Kitwana, author of Hip-Hop Activism in the Obama Era, will moderate.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Gender and Sexual Diversity, the Office of Student Affairs and the Anna Julia Cooper Project.
