A long shopping weekend for a cause will help raise money and promote awareness for women’s cancers. Saks Fifth Avenue New Orleans and the Entertainment Industry Foundation will partner with the Tulane Cancer Center and the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium to host “Key to the Cure” Oct. 17 – 21.
Two percent of sales will benefit the cancer research programs at Tulane University and the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium.
Over the years, this event has generated in excess of $600,000 for cancer research in New Orleans, and this year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest one yet, says Melanie Cross, communications manager of the Tulane Cancer Center.
The event begins with a gala celebration on Wednesday (Oct. 17), from 6 until 9 p.m. at Saks Fifth Avenue New Orleans, 301 Canal St. The benefit continues until close of business on Sunday, Oct. 21.
Attendees at the gala will make a difference in the fight against women’s cancer by walking the pink carpet and enjoying scrumptious fare from 21 of New Orleans’s most well-known restaurants, including Commander’s Palace, Arnaud’s, Emeril’s Delmonico, Galatoire’s, The New Orleans Grill at the Windsor Court, the Court of Two Sisters and others.
Guests will be treated to a huge array of specialty beverages compliments of Republic National Distributing Co. Bands including Casa Samba, the Don Vappie Combo and 4 by 4 will play on every level of the store to get the party started and to help keep it rolling.
A limited-edition Juicy Couture “Key to the Cure” T-shirt — emblazoned with the gala’s theme, “Viva La Cure” in vibrant pink — retails for $35 at Saks.
All of the proceeds from T-shirt sales will benefit the Women’s Cancer Research Fund of the Entertainment Industry Foundation and a portion will go to the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium, a research partnership between Tulane University Health Sciences Center, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and Xavier University of Louisiana.
To purchase tickets for the kickoff gala ($50 each) contact Melanie Cross or call 504-988-6592. Tickets also may be purchased at the door.
Created by the Louisiana State Legislature in 2002, the goals of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium are to decrease the state’s cancer incidence and mortality rates, provide economic growth for the region, provide citizens with access to the highest standard of cancer care available anywhere in the world and to achieve National Cancer Institute Cancer Center designation.
