There are winners on all sides when the students of Carol Whelan, the Paul Tudor Jones II Professor of Social Entrepreneurship, work with pupils at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. In this video, Whelan discusses what happens when her students put theory into practice at Banneker.

Whelan is a professor of practice in the Tulane Teacher Preparation and Certification Program in Newcomb-Tulane College. She says the children at Banneker are beneficiaries, but believes her students benefit as well.

“Infusing social innovation into the curriculum has really changed the way our students think about learning,” Whelan says. “It’s all about the students getting involved in the process of education.”

This video is part of a series introducing the five endowed social entrepreneurship professors at Tulane as they discuss the field of social innovation and its effect on Tulane and other communities, near and far.
