Blogging has become a huge part of the way Tulane admissions reaches potential applicants. Jeff Schiffman, a senior associate director who writes a staff blog and manages submissions to the student admissions blog TruTU, says that blogs have grown in popularity as a supplement to the office’s other outreach material.
“It’s incredible how people take to it,” says Schiffman about his staff blog
. “I try to appeal to more than just students. I’d like for anyone who has interest in the school or in New Orleans in general to be interested.”
With thousands of printed promotional items pumping from the admissions office throughout the year, Schiffman sees the blogs as an authentic means of distributing what life at Tulane will entail.
Schiffman recognizes that a description of life as a Tulane student is more credible coming from an actual Tulane student — not a staff member. For this reason, he solicited the help of more than a dozen student bloggers who post their collegiate experiences to TruTU
, which is located on the university’s admissions website.
“Students are the face of Tulane,” says Schiffman. “We have email campaigns and marketing campaigns along with Facebook and Twitter. Students are involved in each of these efforts to some extent.”
Any student interested in contributing to TruTU should email a sample blog post and a photograph to accompany the posting to Jeff Schiffman.
