Students residing in Irby, Phelps and Aron House residence halls on the Tulane uptown campus will be moved to on-campus shelters beginning this afternoon (Aug. 27). Other on-campus residents are being sheltered in place, in their assigned rooms.
“Irby and Phelps residents will be sheltered in the Reily Student Recreation Center, and Aron House residents will be placed in the Hertz Center,” says Missie McGuire, assistant vice president for campus recreation and student centers. “We selected to move these residents because they are on a separate energy grid from the other residence halls.”
More details will come after student affairs officials meet this morning.
McGuire says that the on-campus shelters are prepped with movies and card games, but students are encouraged to charge up their mobile devices and laptops prior to their arrival for additional “fun distractions.”
Other items students should consider bringing along, she says, are toiletries, any prescription medication needed for a 24-hour period and non-perishable snacks.
