Dr. Tony Herring, Caldwell Visiting Professor, will present his acclaimed documentary DeBakey that pays homage to the life of the world-renowned cardiac surgeon, who held both bachelor’s (1930) and medical (1932) degrees from Tulane.

The documentary carries audiences through the renowned surgeon’s history, touching on his personal life, his numerous professional accomplishments and his legacy within the context of medical science. Herring, chief of staff at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, produced the film shortly before DeBakey died in 2008 at the age of 99.

The Tulane Department of Orthopaedics annually sponsors the Caldwell Visiting Professorship in honor of Dr. Guy Caldwell, who served as professor and chair of orthopaedic surgery.

The lecture will be held at the Tulane School of Medicine, 1430 Tulane Ave., room 6001, at 9 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
