St. Basil’s Cathedral, located on Red Square in the heart of Moscow, is captured through the lens of William Brumfield, professor of Slavic studies at Tulane University.
Brumfield is an author and photographer who has written a number of books on Russian architecture and is known particularly for his work in the country’s far-flung regions. While continuing this work, Brumfield has recently returned to Moscow to photograph its monuments with a new eye.
This photo is part of his recent article for “Russia Beyond the Headlines.” It is his 58th article and photo essay on Russia’s architectural heritage for the foreign-language service of the Russian national newspaper.
