The Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2011 will feature the 2001 Green Wave baseball College World Series team, baseball All-American pitcher Jared Berkowitz, three-sport standout Yogi Teevans, football record holder Paul Ellis and former men’s tennis coach Robert Klein.

The new class will be honored during homecoming festivities this fall with a banquet on Oct. 20 and during halftime of Tulane’s football game against the University of Memphis at the Louisiana Superdome on Oct. 22. For banquet reservations, e-mail Sue Bower or call 504-865-5513.

The group is a who’s who for high marks and banner seasons for Tulane athletics, including the 2001 College World Series and Conference USA Champion baseball team, which joins the Green Wave’s 1998 undefeated football team (inducted in 2008) as the only two squads to be inducted into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame.

Berkowitz is the school’s career pitching leader for victories and Teevans was a track and field standout and also played volleyball and basketball.

Ellis remains the football program’s career interception leader nearly 40 years after playing his final game, while Klein was the Conference USA Coach of the Decade who led the Wave to nine NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure.

“One of the hallmarks of any organization is the accomplishments established by its founders,” said Rick Dickson, director of athletics. “This 2011 class is a remarkable testament to those values as they have each established those in their professions and communities. We congratulate and salute them all.”

The Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1977 to recognize those who have enriched and strengthened the Green Wave athletic programs either through their prowess on the field or through contributions off the field.
