After raising a record-setting amount of nearly $800,000 last year for Tulane University student-athletes and Empowers community outreach programs, the Helluva Hullabaloo Auction has opened its 2013 initiative with spring online bidding that features travel opportunities, sporting events and memorabilia, and entertainment packages.

Proceeds from the Helluva Hullabaloo Auction benefit programs for Tulane student-athletes and Empowers community outreach activities at Tulane University.

The 12th annual auction, which holds several online bidding programs during the year as well as the annual live auction during Homecoming Weekend, began its spring event on Wednesday (May 22) on Charitybuzz.

Eighty-five items currently are up for bid through June 12, offering an array of bidding opportunities for Tulane alumni, fans and supporters.

Professional sports enthusiasts can choose from tickets to Chicago Cubs and New York Mets baseball games, as well as the All-Star Game; New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football games; a NASCAR race; and Manchester United soccer experiences. Golfers can choose from several golf outings at top courses.

For bidders who are looking for entertainment, there are tickets to a Justin Bieber concert, the American Idol live tour, the Book of Mormon show on Broadway in New York City and a concert by hip hop superstar Kendrick Lamar. If Mardi Gras is in anyone’s travel plans, there also are spots to join an Orpheus parade float in 2014.

Exciting travel packages are up for bids, including a Chicago getaway, a resort vacation in Mexico and Disney theme park visits in Florida or California.

Green Wave fans have a variety of football-related events to bid on, such as traveling to games with the team, serving as the honorary team captain, and being a ball boy or ball girl for a game and having dinner with head football coach Curtis "C.J." Johnson and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore.

This fall, the Helluva Hullabaloo Auction and Party will be held during Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 4 in the Lavin-Bernick Center on the Tulane uptown campus.
