The Tulane Office of Environmental Affairs is partnering with Energy Smart to offer Tulane faculty and staff who live in New Orleans free compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL bulbs) and advanced power strips (APS).
• Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life (first floor, near FedEx Office) on Wednesday (March 27) from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
• 1440 Canal Street lobby on Thursday (March 28) from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Representatives from Energy Smart will be on-site to distribute bulbs and power strips, answer questions and provide expert guidance on low- to no-cost strategies for saving money on energy bills. Bulbs and power strips will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“This is a value of over $300 in bulbs, APS and energy savings,” Davey says. When installed, CFL bulbs save a significant amount of energy and provide up to seven years of maintenance-free, soft white light, for a savings of $35 per bulb. Advanced power strips help prevent waste by eliminating energy consumed by common household electronics when they are not in use.
Orleans Parish residents can learn about more ways to save energy by contacting Energy Smart.
