Tulane President Scott Cowen fielded a wide variety of questions during a live chat he hosted Monday (March 4) at noon. The online conversation focused on the challenges and opportunities Tulane faces as it charts its future in a higher education world confronted by rising costs, federal budget cuts and increased competition. The president talked about Tulane increasing its endowment and continuing to allocate resources wisely, lest it find itself in a situation where costs outpace revenues. The possibility of a hiring freeze or changes to employee benefits, as well as the impact of sequestration, were also hot items of discussion.
