A person’s ideas about Valentine’s Day usually go one of two ways — they either love it or else they see it as an unscrupulous ploy by the greeting card, candy and flower industries to rake in money.

Regardless of which category you fall into, I’ve got some great ideas for you and your special someone (yes, your special someone could be yourself) to enjoy the holiday this week at little or no cost, some without ever leaving campus!

Enjoy!

‘Love Notes’
The Newcomb Archives has an amazing collection of early 20th century love notes available for viewing. With all of the technology we have these days it’s nice to revisit these handwritten, pre-e-mail sweet nothings.

‘An Evening of Dance’
Attend a Newcomb Dance Company performance Feb. 18–20. Tickets are $9 for the Tulane community and $12 general admission. The shows are worth every penny — Insider’s honor!

‘Get Tested — Together’
There will be free anonymous HIV testing today (Feb. 14) from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at theWELL. This event is one of several happenings during Sexual Responsibility Week, sponsored by the Student Health Center and Office of Wellness Services.

‘Listen to FREE Music’
The Newcomb Music Department welcomes the Mississippi Chamber Circle during Music at Midday on Wednesday (Feb. 16) at noon in Rogers Memorial Chapel on the uptown campus.

‘Visit a Museum’
Tulane staff member and freelance photographer Richard Keller Sr. has been selected to display his photographs during the 13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibition running now through March 28 at the New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture and History.
